Craft as the New Luxury Industry

According to Li Edelkoort, one of the most well-known prophets among trend forecasters, craft will play an essential role in the future for preserving traditions and creating jobs. It not only offers the opportunity to preserve and promote local cultures and identities, but also makes a significant contribution to reducing environmental impact.

As one of the most internationally influential figures in the fashion and design industry, the Dutch trend forecaster's predictions for future developments in fashion, design, lifestyle, and society are often decisive for many companies.

"Craft is the new luxury industry," she explains. "In our fast-paced and often superficial consumer society, the handmade production of products is becoming increasingly important. People are looking for sustainable and high-quality products that are made by hand in small quantities." In this sense, she sees craft as a new luxury item.

In addition, in today's world, craft has a "vitalizing power." She emphasizes that this is not just a trend, but an important factor for the future. People are increasingly yearning for things that are made with care and attention, rather than mass-produced. Handcrafted products are more durable, produce less waste, and are therefore also environmentally friendly.
