Baroque,
courtly life,
abundance,
glamour and
ironic reminiscences of
golden times are the
guiding theme through the work of
Kühn Keramik.
In the laboratory of a more than 120-year-old pharmacy in Berlin, their workshop is located. The clay is delivered from the Westerwald, the glaze from Meissen, and the motifs are printed in a small printing house in Selb in the heart of Germany.
An
international mixed
team from Germany, France, Sweden, Lithuania, and Italy
shapes the
raw materials here with
Berlin tap water into
iconic cups, mugs, bowls, and decorative pieces.
Like
dough, the clay is
rolled out, cut into pieces, and processed into the appropriate shape, with each piece being
unique.
Fingerprints of the employees on the
raw pieces are
not removed, remain
visible on the finished cups, and give them a
special charm. No standardizing molds are used, so
each piece remains a
one-of-a-kind.
Next, the
raw ware is fired in the oven for the
first time. It is still
fragile, but soon it receives its glaze and is fired
once again at 1100° C. During this process, the
clay fuses with the glaze, becoming
more solid, and the individual pieces are
even dishwasher safe as a result.
During a
third and
fourth firing, the motifs, gold, silver, and platinum coatings, as well as all other very special
decorations, are applied.
The product range of Kühn Keramik extends over hundreds of different models, more than 600 motifs, six colors, as well as white, gold, silver, and platinum.
Their creations set unexpected accents in any ambiance.
