Veronika Thurin was born in Merano and completed her studies in ceramics in Vienna, Linz, and Faenza. Since 1993, she has been working in her studio in Bolzano. For the artist, free, creative and unbound work is a prerequisite. With mindfulness, discipline, and respect, she approaches the material clay.
"Clay remembers, even if it appears compliant on the surface."
The stoneware vases by Veronika Thurin are wheel-thrown, painted with engobes, graphically designed with a heat-resistant pen, incised, and are overall fired three times.
Porcelain and its qualities of transparency, delicacy, and purity also inspire Veronika Thurin. She sees in it the possibility to overcome the heaviness and earthiness of clay and to play with these qualities up to a dematerialization and spiritualization of the objects.
Her porcelain vases are almost transparent and impress with their aesthetic. They are made using slab technique, with decorations created in an elaborate washing process: the ornaments are freely drawn with shellac, and then the spaces in between are washed out with a sponge. This creates the reliefs. The products and art objects by Veronika Thurin are sold in selected shops and galleries.
"A common denominator of my diverse works is the search for concentration in form and color, the conceptual approach, and the inclusion of space."
We are very pleased to present Veronika Thurin exclusively in Vienna.
